The Ben Nevis race is run under the following rules…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rules for Runners<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

(The BNRA Rules)<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Competitors must abide by the current UK Athletics Rules for Competition, copies of which are available from,<\/p>\n

British Athletics,<\/p>\n

Athletics House,<\/p>\n

Alexander Stadium,<\/p>\n

Walsall Road,<\/p>\n

Perry Barr,<\/p>\n

Birmingham,<\/p>\n

B42 2BE.<\/p>\n

It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with these. Competitors must in addition abide by the following rules of the Ben Nevis Race Association.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Conditions for Entry<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Competitors must<\/strong> be members of a bona fide Athletic Club and at least 18 years of age on 1st<\/sup> January for the year of the race they are entering.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Competitors must have completed three Category \u201cAM\u201d<\/u><\/a> hill\/fell races as defined by the Scottish Hill Runners or the Fell Runners Association.\u00a0Scottish Hill Runners Calendar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Only the first 600 runners are accepted. No entries are accepted after the closing date.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Neither names nor numbers may be substituted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Time Allowances<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Competitors who do not reach Halfway in 1.15 hours will be turned back.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. Competitors who do not reach the summit in 2.15 hours will be turned back.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  1. Competitors who do not complete the course in 3 hours 30 minutes will, subject to appeal to the Committee, be refused entry to subsequent races.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                      \n
                    1. Failure to comply with the request of a BNRA marshal will result in immediate disqualification and refusal of entry to subsequent Ben Nevis Races.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                      \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                      \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                        \n
                      1. Equipment<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                          \n
                        1. Competitors must carry full waterproof body cover, including head covering and gloves.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                            \n
                          1. Competitors must carry a whistle and the runners card issued as confirmation of entry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                              \n
                            1. Failure to comply results in immediate disqualification from the current race.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                              The use of poles\/sticks is banned from our race. The following link confirms that poles are banned in Scottish races https:\/\/www.scottishhillrunners.uk\/Safety.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n

                              Under rule 11 it states that<\/p>\n

                                \n
                              1. Additional rule which applies as from January 2020: <\/strong>The SHR Committee have taken the decision that use of walking poles\/sticks in hill races is not compatible with the safe running of hill running events.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                  \n
                                1. Procedure<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                  \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                                    \n
                                  1. Competitors must register in person.<\/li>\n
                                  2. The confirmation acceptance receipt must be shown at registration.<\/li>\n
                                  3. A numbered chipped bib will be issued at registration.<\/li>\n
                                  4. Running number must not be obscured during the race.<\/li>\n
                                  5. If a runner decides not<\/strong><\/em> to run, AFTER REGISTRATION PROCEDURES ARE COMPLETED<\/strong>, the runner is to report immediately to the Race Secretary, with his\/her registration documents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                    \u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

                                      \n
                                    1. Retiral<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                        \n
                                      1. Retiral from the race must be reported to a BNRA marshal AND<\/strong> to the Race Time Keepers (Protay) at the start point in the park.<\/li>\n
                                      2. Failure to comply will lead to a refusal of entry to subsequent Ben Nevis races.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                        \u00a0<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

                                          \n
                                        1. Adverse Weather<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                          In the event of adverse weather, the committee reserves the right to cancel the race. No entry fees will be returned.<\/p>\n

                                          Please note:<\/strong> This is a dangerous sport. If you take part you voluntarily assume the risk of any injury you may sustain. In the entry form you will be asked to submit, there is a disclaimer by which you legally absolve the Ben Nevis Race Association of any\/all liability for your personal safety and any liability to indemnify your family and other dependants. You therefore participate entirely at your risk.<\/p>\n
